town (1990 pop. 4,468),
Summit co., N central Utah, in the Wasatch Range. A
former mining town whose silver and other deposits
were mined out, it was a nearly ghost town by the
1950s but has since become a major skiing center and a
bedroom community for Salt Lake City and Provo-Orem.
Growth followed discovery of silver and lead (1868);
George Hearst made millions from the Ontario Mine. A
fire destroyed much of the town in 1898. The Sundance
Film Festival is held in Park City, as were skiing
events during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

Park City
is one of those places whose name evokes visions of
more than just a ski area. Situated near Deer Valley
and The Canyons, just outside of Salt Lake City, Park
City has the only real resort town in Utah. There are
shops and restaurants along the charming main street
in Park City and its close proximity to other ski
areas makes it a great spot to stay. We recommend
obtaining a rental car so that you can easily explore
the other ski areas of Solitude, Brighton, Alta, and
Snowbird while there.
